Scuba Diving the U.S.S. Vandenberg Shipwreck

Vandenberg Shipwreck

If you are a beginning or experienced scuba diver with a flair for exploring sunken ships, the USNS Vandenberg ship is an amazing undersea structure to explore. Sunk in May, 2009 as an artificial reef, it is the largest such reef in Key West, and the second largest in the world.

Auctioned by the federal government in 2008, a consortium of Key West businesses and investors paid the outstanding shipyard dues that had caused it to be auctioned, and title was transferred to the City of Key West. It is now part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
